Olivia Reed, BA, CD(DONA), Placenta Encapsulation Specialist (PBI), Student Midwife

I am so grateful to be sharing my passion for providing support for women and their partners during their childbearing years. At age three I became fascinated with the evolution of my mother’s body during pregnancy, and I was thrilled with the miraculous addition of my brother to our family! From an early age I understood that women’s healthcare required not only technical expertise, but also a deep, loving respect for women’s unique experiences, decisions, and perspectives on life.

In 2014 I completed my B.A. in psychology at the University of Redlands, where I earned departmental honors for a research project that I designed on prenatal attachment. While conducting my study, I learned about helping expectant parents form meaningful bonds with their baby during pregnancy, while preparing for the physically and mentally intense feat of birth. After college I worked for a year in a women’s health physical therapy clinic, where I continued to learn about empathic, intuitive, and evidence-based care for women recovering from episiotomies, pelvic floor problems, sexual dysfunction, and incontinence.

In 2015 I completed the DONA International birth doula training, and I am now a Certified Birth Doula. I am also enrolled as a student midwife through National Midwifery Institute, and I regularly attend prenatal visits, homebirths, and postpartum appointments as an apprentice with Fawn. Working with Fawn and serving her incredible home birth families for the past two years has taught me so much about the core values of midwifery; educating, empowering, and advocating for women and babies. Fawn has shown me how quality prenatal care and a genuine connection with each client can make all the difference in birth outcomes. Finally, I have seen how birthing women must access both strength and surrender in their process. I look forward to continuing to learn from Fawn’s years of experience, and sharing my strengths with the families she serves.
